The Institute of Medical Parasitology and The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) has discovered a new cause of bad breath: parasite infestation.
Recent studies show that the byproducts produced by parasites are toxic and create a favorable environment in the stomach for the development of more microbes that cause rotting. For this reason, people who have parasites have bad breath.

Our guest today is Dr. David Mwangi, a senior researcher at the Eastern and Southern Africa Centre of International Parasite Control (ESACIPAC), Kenya Medical Research Institute, Nairobi.

–Dr. Mwangi, Good afternoon! I will start with our main question — is it true that Kenya is the leader in terms of parasitic infections?

— That's right. Kenya is one of the top countries in Africa in terms of parasite infection. The reason for this is the extremely poor environmental situation and poor food quality inspection, whilst this is a sensitive issue, the government more or less ignores it.

–Dr. Mwangi, How accurate are the study’s findings on the connection between parasite infection and bad breath?

– A couple of years ago, the medical community believed that bad breath is formed precisely in the oral cavity. However, recent studies have shown that another important cause is stomach and liver problems (which are always present when a person is infected with parasites). Scientists also reported that ignoring this "usual symptom" is a mistake. Parasitic infection leads to the occurrence of almost all serious diseases in humans.

I personally trust the research of our Institute. Simple "unpleasant smell" from the mouth turns into a serious disease. About 92% of human deaths are caused by parasitic infestations. And it's not just deaths from disease. The vast majority of so-called "natural deaths" are all consequences of the metabolic activity of parasites inside your body and organs.

– When you say “parasites”, people usually think of worms, how can they lead to the appearance of bad breath and even the death of a person?

— In fact, it is a big mistake to think that human parasites are exclusively worms. There are a large number of diverse parasites that live in different organs. And they lead to a variety of consequences. Yes, and worms, helminths to be exact, are very dangerous. They literally destroy the intestines of their host, which sooner or later turns fatal. By the way, even helminths are quite difficult to detect and destroy.

Additionally, there are thousands of parasites that can live in the liver, brain, lungs, blood and stomach. And practically all of them are fatal. Some of them immediately begin to act aggressively and destroy the body. Others act imperceptibly, but as soon as their number increases dramatically, the person dies.

At the same time, I can confidently say that almost everyone is infected with parasites. It's just that most of them are extremely difficult to detect. And when the consequences of infection with parasites start to appear, doctors try to treat them. Even during the autopsy of bodies, special tests are needed to detect parasites. At least most of them.

–Can you give some specific examples of parasitic infestations?

– I can list hundreds of cases. But I suppose I should focus on the one that will clearly demonstrate the full danger of parasites.

First, as evidenced, some tapeworms are capable of causing cancer. And technically, not the person themself is infected, but the worms. And its malignant cells spread throughout the body, infecting the person. This occurs when the worm larvae pass from the intestine to the person's lymph nodes. As a result, they turn into cancerous tumors. Death literally comes in a matter of months. Just the previous week, another case of death from similar tumors was recorded.

Another common organ to be infected with parasites is the brain. This leads to neurosis, rapid fatigue, excessive excitability and drastic mood swings. And at a later stage, as the brain fills with parasites, more serious diseases develop, eventually leading to death.

The third example is heartworm infestation. It is believed to be a very rare disease. But in fact, at least a few heartworms are present in about 23% of people. In other words, one in four. At an early stage, they are absolutely imperceptible, their effect on the body is reduced to zero. But the more time passes, the more visible the activity of worms in a person's heart becomes. These parasites become the main cause of many heart diseases, and if we talk about sudden death due to cardiac arrest, these parasites account for almost 100% of such cases.

–How else is parasite infestation dangerous?

In men, the parasites cause: prostatitis, impotence, adenoma, cystitis, kidney and bladder stones.
In women: pain and inflammation of the ovaries. Fibromas, fibrocystic mastopathy, inflammation of the adrenal glands, bladder and kidneys develop. And, of course, there is premature aging of the skin, wrinkles, bags under the eyes, warts and papillomas appear on the face and body.

–How to protect yourself from parasites? Are there tests, drugs?

– Unfortunately, to date there are no accurate tools to diagnose parasites inside a person. This is partly due to the presence of a large number of parasitic species (more than 2,000 species that we know of), and partly due to an extremely high level of difficulty in detecting them. The complete parasite analysis procedure in Kenya is available in but a few places and costs a lot of money.

The first symptoms of your body being infected with parasite are:

• – Halitosis (bad breath);
• – Allergies (rashes, watery eyes, runny nose);
• – Rashes and red spots on the skin;
• – Frequent colds, sore throat, stuffy nose;
• – Chronic fatigue (you tire quickly no matter what you do);
• – Frequent headaches;
• – Constipation or diarrhea;
• – Joint and muscle pain;
• – Nervousness, sleep and appetite disorders;
• – Dark circles, bags under the eyes;

With your experiencing at least one of these symptoms with a probability of 99%, it can be said that there are parasites in your body. And they must be flushed out urgently!

If we talk about drugs, then we get to even more problems. To date, there is only a single solution that makes it possible to get rid of parasites.
